Knowing function of microbead pillows

You must have heard or read about microbead pillows. Most probably, you have heard that they come highly recommended in orthopedics. They are indeed! But, how do they really work? The first thing that you must know about orthopedic microbead pillow is the materials they are made of. The secret of these therapeutic pillows actually lies on them.

This kind of pillow is actually stuffed with thousands to millions of miniscule beads. The beads make these head cushions very flexible. The outer materials are usually made with stretchy or spandex materials which make this pillow durable even as it morphs too many times.

The materials used on microbead pillows make them adapt easily to the area or part of the body they support. It also has higher density compare with the ordinary pillows people use.  The individual beads packed inside the pillows give it a very squishy and comfortable feel.

Orthopedic pillows with snow beads greatly help in the pain relief. People who have just undergone operation or sustained injuries in some areas of the body are provided with these pillows. How do microbead pillows work is that the softness and flexibility delivered by such pillows aid in reducing the tension absorbed by the body’s pressure points. Thus, a person may position his head, arms or feet anyway he wants without having to suffer from uneasiness or pain in the middle of the night. Moreover, they can provide support and lessen any discomfort by placing them on areas where a person feels sensitive due to operation or accident.

New Invacare Power Wheelchair

I have been using my electric wheelchair since 10 years. I am 75 years old now and I was not finding my wheelchair comfortable anymore. Since, I have been using it for 10 years, I kind of developed affection for my electric wheelchair, but still, I was missing something out of it. It made me think that 10 years is a long time, when one starts turning old. My body is not functioning that effectively as it used to function previously. Earlier, I used to find my electric wheelchair very useful. I could do all my things very easily. I could move very easily from place to another. But, since one year, I am not finding it as useful as I used to find it previously. Then, I started looking online for what I am missing in my electric wheelchair, there I found something about Power wheelchairs and the brand Invacare.

Invacare is a leading brand in producing health and medical products and they have been in this market for a long time now. I looked for their electric wheelchairs and found this Invacare Power Wheelchairs. They got some series of power wheelchairs and they all looked really cool, that is how my grandson would describe them. But, yes, they all looked very fashionable. Well, I was not looking for fashion in my wheelchair, I was looking for convenience and there in that very site I found the wheelchair I have been looking for. These are sleep, compact and are very light weight, than my existing wheelchair. They are more powerful and provide all those comforts, those I have been missing in my existing wheelchair. What was amazing was that the power wheelchair cost much less than what I expected. So, without causing any delay, I ordered the wheelchair, that I wanted and got it within 3 days. Now, my life is not the same. I feel more energetic and much more mobile, which I have not felt in the last 10 years.

Using Ceiling lifts for Disabled

Most of the homes and public buildings now are not well equipped to be disabled friendly. This is a worrying trend because, as a society, we should always focus on the needy people and ensure that they are not forgotten by the rest. In fact, it is not difficult to equip your home with the right set of mobility aids to make it handicap ready. This article introduces the different lifting devices for old people so you can have a better idea and set about buying them if your home has a needy user.

Firstly, the ceiling lift is one which moves the user from the bed to the wheelchair. It is basically a track that is installed to the ceiling with a simple lifting mechanism in the middle. The crane has a canvas hanging from it where the user will be lifted in. To operate the ceiling lift, an assistant is required to be present. The assistant will tilt the user to the side and slip the canvas underneath. The patient will rest in the middle of the canvas. The ends of the canvas will be hooked on to the ceiling lift before theassistant can operate the lift.

Operating the ceiling lift is a simple process with only the up and down buttons to know. The important part is to ensure the user is in the correct position. When the assistant presses the up button, the user will be lifted slowly. The caregiver needs to ensure that the user is in the seated position when lifted. When the user is about one foot from the bed, the assistant can press the stop button.

This is when the user is in mid-air. The helper will need to move the patient along the designated track as installed on the ceiling to the next location. Push the patient slowly while keeping the canvas from swaying. The user will be pushed until he is right above his Quickie Power Wheelchairs where he will be lowered slowly into position. The canvas can be left under the patient on the wheelchair as it will be used again when he needs to be transferred back to the bed.

If you do not want to use the ceiling lift, an alternative is the floor lift which is similar in its functions. The difference is that the floor lift has a set of wheels and is more mobile than the ceiling lift which is restricted to the tracks.

Electric wheelchair parts

Snazzy electric wheelchair users ultimately have to grapple with the fact of servicing and maintaining the wheelchair themselves. It is advisable that a user regularly services his wheelchair, at least once a month as owning a wheelchair is like having a car. Both are a form of transport and, if they are down, creates a lot problems for the users. In the case of electric wheelchairs, the parts may be difficult to replace as they are old models, secondly, users may have to request for the assistance of family or friends to assist in purchasing the parts. To ensure a smooth operating snazzy wheelchair, maintaining, regular adjustments and repairs are essential.

To get started, we have to familiarize with the building blocks of electric wheelchairs and know their individual functions. First and the most important is the battery powering the motors. Users should constantly check the conditions of the battery for any leakage or wear and tear. In the case of wet cell batteries, the liquid within may dry up after prolonged use. Other parts to take note are the on board chargers that allow the users to plug their electric wheelchairs to any outlets and charge the batteries and the joystick controls which have to be checked for mechanical failures. Tires and pneumatic and foam filled tubes have to checked for any tears too.
Going down to the wheels, there are the various ball bearings for the front and rear wheels: single/double flange, needle and discontinued bearings and casters.
At the motor area, there are the electric motors attached at the back and gearboxes.
Other parts of the wheelchairs which take care of the comfort of the users are foot, leg, arm and hand rests which can be full length or partial padded. Calf pads can also be added to support the back of the legs.

There are other electric wheelchair parts which will come in handy outside the core use of transportation. Shower replacement seats which allow the users to seat while showering and it is slip-proof, there is also the shower chair backs for users who have difficulty sitting upright while bathing. Portable wheelchair ramps help to go up steps which may be too high for standard electric wheelchairs to ascend. To list the rest: upholstery, cushions, baskets, trays, padded footplates and drainage bag covers.

Most of these parts contribute to the operating of the wheelchair and require repairing and replacing from time to time. Depending on individual preferences, there are users who will purchase the parts in advance and store at home just in case there is a need for replacement. The downtime for the wheelchair will be shorter too. It is recommended to purchase wheelchair parts along with the wheelchairs from the same dealers as they will know the best fit and brand for your electric wheelchairs. In the event that the user needs to buy the wheelchair parts, he can go to electric wheelchair website online to see the different vendors. There are often discounts being offered online and free shipping too. Like any other online shoppers, do take note of the parts' warranty with regards to defects due to transportation.
